![]() The Starlight is probably the more authentic EP-3 emulation, while the El Capistan is more versatile in terms of emulating different tape. Both brands offer really competitive prices compared with other brands nonetheless. The Starlight only has 3 options of worn/aged tape, while the El Capistan has a lot more flexibility in terms of the tape splices, headroom, high and low end content, etc. As close competitors, Hikvision and Dahua have large variations of the products. The CCTV Cameras, IP cameras, DVR, NVR, etc offered by Hikvision and Dahua are very close in price, however Dahua is slightly cheaper. The Hikvision Colorvu range seem to have the best night time performance Check the spec sheets individually to compare. On average we are finding the sensors on the Hikvision cameras have better low light performance. If this is important to you ensure that the cam you select offers night time colour. The way both cameras can offer full time colour is for both a special lens and actual LED light when its very dark. If this is important to you ensure the cam you select has this feature. Both do false alarm filtering to trigger upon human / vehicles. Terrain generation is noticeably faster with Starlight over Phosphor. Its surprisingly stable despite being 'Experimental'. Orders of magnitude faster and Ive never had a lighting glitch with it. Hikvision’s Acusense is similar to Dahua’s SMD ( Smart Motion Detection). Phosphor is more popular because its written by the same author as Lithium and Sodium, but Starlight is better. More Dahua cameras feature sound recording vs the Hikvision ones – so if this is important to you, investigate the Dahua Eyeball cameras with inbuilt mics. There are different versions on ONVIF, so there may be compatibility issues between the two. We would highly recommend choosing the same branded NVR to suit the cameras though. RTSP allows even non-ONVIF equipment (such as software) to access the security camera’s video stream. ONVIF ensures that your camera will work with standards-compliant equipment from 3rd party manufacturers. Once a separate series, this t echnology is now included as standard in the 5 line series of Darkfighter cameras and upwards mentioned earlier (the new Hik website lets you filter by 140dB).Still concerned about what to choose? Hikvision and Dahua are two of the most popular IP camera brands. “The LightFighter series delivers crystal-clear images with true color reproduction in brightly lit or high contrast environments” – thanks to ultra-high 140 dB WDR technology (so here you have very bright and very dark areas it works well). A limited choice of high end cameras only. The king of the low light cameras – a premium offering featuring dual image sensors. (Powered by series includes the DS-2CD2T45FWD-I) ColourVu (4mp in Colour until: 0.0014 Lux then White light assistance)Īn extremely exciting new release providing the bigger sensor of the DarkFighter series and an a wide open lens – a range dedicated to being superb in low light and remaining in colour at all times while at an affordable cost – however a white light will be visible when it’s really dark rather than a more subtle Infra-Red glow, which may be a deal breaker for some. The ‘budget’ DarkFighter series – bigger lens + algorithm but not the bigger sensor so only a slight improvement over a non-dark fighter camera. ‘Powered’ by DarkFighter (4mp in Colour until: 0.008 Lux then Infra Red ) It’s all about being better in low light, a bigger image sensor and lens as well as software algorithm such as the DS-2CD5A46G1-IZ – these also have a full selection of connectivity options for professional installations. (Our existing blog post regarding 4k cameras can make for an interesting initial read: ) DarkFighter – Ultra 5 series (4mp in Colour until: 0.002 Lux then Infra Red) Hikvision are always pushing the boundary to bring better performing cameras to the market at an impressive price point although the array of technologies can be confusing, so we have tried to explain things in as simple a manner as possible.
